Actively experience Schenna

From Schenna, drive towards Hafling and continue on to Vöran. You can park directly at the Grüner Baum inn. Take the Schützen-Bründel-Weg trail for a leisurely hike up to the Knottnkino. The last few metres are a bit steeper, but once you reach the top, you will be rewarded with a unique view of the Burggrafenamt region and its mountains. You can enjoy the view from the comfortable viewing chairs. Continue on to the Leadner Alm, where you can take a break and then return to the car park via a different route.

This pleasant hike begins directly in Schenna at the Hotel Sunnwies. At the start, you walk shortly up the road towards St. Georgen, where you turn off and enter the apple fields of Schenna. From there, you continue to the so-called ‘Kampflkreuz’. From there, you have a wonderful view of the Merano valley basin and the mountains. The ‘Kampflkreuz’ is located in the middle of apple orchards surrounded by a large stone. You can make yourself comfortable on the built-in wooden bench and enjoy the peace and quiet. Then follow the path on the upper side, which leads you down to the Goyenweg (small road), which then takes you back to the main road of Schenna. Once you reach Schennastraße, follow it for 100 metres out of the village and turn right down to the Schenna outdoor swimming pool. This will take you directly to Mitterplattweg, where you will find the next apple orchard. Follow this path towards the centre of Schenna. Passing the Hotel Tyrol, you will arrive directly in the centre of Schenna. Once there, simply follow the main road back to the hotel.

From Hotel Sunnwies, drive towards Lana. From Lana, take the turnoff into the Ulten Valley and follow the road to Weißbrunn. You can park your cars right by Lake Weißbrunn, which is where the hike begins. The hike starts with a leisurely climb up to the Fischersee lake and continues past a waterfall to the upper Weißbrunnalm. The final stop is the newly built Fiechtalm, where you can enjoy a hearty snack and a wonderful view of the surrounding Ultental mountains. The return route takes you down the forest path from the Fiecht Alm back to the starting point at Weißbrunnsee.

From Hotel Sunnwies, take the expressway towards Reschenpass. On the country road in Vinschgau, turn right after the village of Naturns towards Schnalstal. The hike begins directly at Lake Vernagt, where there is also a large car park. At the beginning, you walk along the lake shore at a leisurely pace. Then you climb up to the Finail farms. There you can enjoy a good snack while taking in the wonderful view of Lake Vernagt. Afterwards, you hike back to the starting point.

This high-altitude promenade is certainly one of the most beautiful in Europe. The path is very sunny and, at an average altitude of 380m, offers wonderful vantage points over the roofs of the city of Merano and the entire Burggrafenamt. The approximately four-kilometre-long walk leads from the Gilfpromenade over the slopes of the Küchelberg to Gratsch. In addition to the native plant population, there is also lush Mediterranean vegetation such as various palm and bamboo species or violin cacti and even exotic plants such as the Chinese hemp palm. There are several access points to the Tappeinerweg: via the Tiroler Steig behind the town parish church, in Galileistraße (valley station of the Küchelberg chairlift), via the Schlehdorfsteig in Verdistraße nd from the Zenoburg, past the Pulverturm.

Thanks to the mild climate, biking in Schenna is possible from March to November; with the Bahn & Bike ticket you can easily explore South Tyrol by bike.
