During the winter holidays at the turn of the year, Hotel Sunnwies offers a cosy feel-good atmosphere. The spacious, harmoniously designed rooms and suites offer plenty of room to relax. Meet at the atmospheric bar to enjoy a leisurely aperitif lungo with real winter feeling.

The popular ice skating rink at Raiffeisenplatz will once again open its doors from November 20, 2026, to January 10, 2027. It serves as a central meeting place for young and old alike, inviting visitors to enjoy ice skating, relax, and spend time together. A food and beverage stand will provide a selection of refreshments and culinary treats to complement the experience.
A trip to Merano is always a memorable experience! During the Christmas season, this charming spa town shines in a magical display of festive lights. The Merano Christmas Market (open until January 6, 2027) is considered one of the most beautiful Christmas markets in the Alpine region.
LUMAGICA Light Park
A special highlight is the LUMAGICA Light Park in the gardens of Trauttmansdorff Castle. From November 19, 2026, to January 6, 2027, visitors can immerse themselves in a fascinating world of illuminated installations set against a stunning natural backdrop. As South Tyrol’s only park of its kind, it once again promises an unforgettable experience in a truly unique atmosphere.
In December and January, a complimentary shuttle service is available from the Tourist Office, providing direct transfers from the train stations in Bolzano and Merano, the FlixBus stop at Merano Thermal Baths, and Bolzano Airport directly to the hotel.

Those who brave the new InfinityPool only a few metres outside the hotel will be rewarded with a first class bathing experience.
The 31°C heated pool looks out onto snow-covered mountain peaks and beautiful sunsets – an unforgettable highlight!

The ice rink in Scena/Schenna is a popular meeting place for locals and guests who want to enjoy winter to the full. The ice rink is located right in the centre and offers an atmospheric ambience. Here you can let off steam with a round on the ice or simply enjoy the wintry atmosphere. Ice skates in various sizes and helmets are available to hire on site. Cosy seating areas around the ice rink invite you to watch the action and enjoy the relaxed atmosphere. The catering stand offers small snacks and hot drinks that are perfect for warming up.

The enchanting setting of Trauttmansdorff Castle in Merano will be one magical attraction richer this winter: The LUMAGICA Park of Lights, South Tyrol's first park of its kind, will open its doors in November and take visitors on an incomparable journey through the fascinating worlds of the botanical garden.
The LUMAGICA Park of Lights is more than just a light installation - it is a tribute to the beauty of nature and the diversity of life. Each handcrafted light installation has been carefully designed to reflect the unique themes and atmospheres of the botanical garden and enchant visitors of all ages.
The LUMAGICA Light Park promises an unforgettable experience for the whole family, from the magic of dusk to the twinkling starry sky. Over 300 impressive light structures are waiting for you!

Skiing, snowboarding & winter sports
The valley station of the Merano 2000 ski area in Avelengo/Hafling is just 10 minutes from Hotel Sunnwies. In a further 7 minutes, a modern cable car takes you to the centre of the ski area on a sun-drenched high plateau. Here you will find 40 km of perfectly groomed pistes, which are ideal for beginners as well as advanced skiers and families. The wide slopes offer plenty of space for enjoyable turns, while the snow park guarantees action and fun for freestylers. For the little ones, there is the Outdoor Kids Camp, where they can take their first steps on skis. A 3 km long toboggan run provides additional winter fun.
Take the convenient ski and hiking bus from Scena/Schenna to the valley station and start your skiing day in a relaxed manner. After an active day on the slopes, the nearby spa town of Merano invites you to relax - whether on a stroll through the historic old town or a visit to the Merano thermal baths. The cosy Christmas markets and the romantic flair of the town make your winter holiday complete.
